RECOVERY COACHING PROGRAM FOR THE MARTHA’S VINEYARD, PLYMOUTH, CAPE COD & BOSTON, MA AREAS

Our Recovery Coaching Program

Recovery is defined as a process of change through which individuals improve their health and
wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. The ten guiding
principles of recovery are hope, relational, person-driven, many pathways, culture, addresses
trauma, holistic, strengths/responsibility, peer support and respect.

Recovery Coaches at Foundations base their practices on the ten guiding principles of recovery. Recovery Coaches use the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) eight
dimensions of wellness as a guide to provide the best possible services to recoverees. There does not have to be a perfect balance among all dimensions, but they are all interconnected.

What is an addiction recovery coach?

A recovery coach offers hope, shared decision making, mentorships and encouragement. They are a nonclinical support who has lived experience with substance use disorder. They work on removing barriers to recovery by identifying challenges and opportunities for long-term recovery. Recovery coaches provide strength-based support with a “hands on” approach. They offer support to recoverees and their families as they enter and progress through treatment and recovery. Recovery coaches at Foundations work with recoverees post and pre-treatment while using a wrap-around approach to support recoverees in their process.

They work collaboratively with Foundation’s counselors, families, and all who are involved in the recoveree’s treatment. Recovery Coaches help Recoverees navigate systems, establish community connections, facilitate decision-making, and self-advocate. Recovery Coaches work with Recoverees to develop and carry out a self-directed Wellness Plan.\

Early recovery can be very challenging. Those in early recovery may be faced with barriers such as urges to return to use, day to day stressors, family conflict, work and financial hardships, and mental health. Having someone who can empower individuals through mentoring techniques and provide emotional and social support can be useful in early recovery. The Recovery Coaches work with recoverees over an extended period, to help individuals sustain their recovery and build recovery capital; they provide outreach, crisis intervention, engagement, and referrals to encourage the individual to
pursue a pathway of recovery. They serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, cheerleader, and motivator. Recovery Coaches share information on multiple pathways and guide individuals as they discover and develop their own unique pathway of recovery.

Mental health and substance use disorders impact individuals across various demographics and age groups. These conditions, while common and recurrent, are treatable with many individuals experiencing recovery. Mental disorders encompass alterations in thinking, mood, and behavior, influencing interpersonal relationships and decision-making. Substance use disorders, as defined by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), result from the persistent use of alcohol and/or drugs leading to significant impairment and various complications.

Addiction, including alcoholism and drug dependence, is recognized as a complex issue often misunderstood as a moral failing. However, it is now understood by the scientific and medical communities as a chronic illness akin to conditions like asthma or diabetes. Foundations Group Recovery Centers, a leading substance use treatment center in Mashpee, MA, offers comprehensive programs tailored to address all forms of addiction and substance use disorders. If you are seeking addiction treatment in Massachusetts, our expert team is here to help you on your path to recovery.

Substance use disorder is a widespread illness that does not discriminate based on socioeconomic status, gender, employment status, age, or ethnicity. While the exact causes remain unknown, the likelihood of developing a substance use disorder can be influenced by genetic factors inherited within families.

Environmental factors, psychological characteristics, and stress levels also significantly contribute to the onset of alcohol or drug use. Prolonged drug use has been found to alter the brain in lasting ways, triggering a switch that leads to dependency on the substance. Individuals who initiate drug or alcohol use at an early age are at higher risk of developing dependency.

These brain changes persist even after ceasing drug use or alcohol consumption, highlighting the complexities of addiction. At Foundations Group Recovery Centers, a premier addiction treatment facility in Massachusetts, we understand these challenges and offer specialized programs to support individuals on their journey towards recovery.

Recognizing the signs of substance addiction or dependence is essential for seeking timely help. One key indicator is the continued use of drugs or alcohol despite experiencing severe negative consequences. Individuals may tend to attribute their problems to external factors, such as blaming employers for job loss or law enforcement for legal issues, rather than acknowledging the impact of substance use.

Denial is pervasive within this illness, with affected individuals often believing that their alcohol or drug consumption is normal, or that everyone engages in similar behaviors. Physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms may also manifest when the use of the substance is halted, leading to a range of distressing symptoms.

At Foundations Group Recovery Centers in Massachusetts, our specialized addiction treatment programs address these complexities, offering support for individuals struggling with denial, tolerance, craving, and loss of control associated with substance use disorders.

In addiction treatment programs, individuals receive care from various professionals, including certified substance abuse treatment counselors who are often individuals with personal recovery experience. These counselors work alongside a diverse team of experts, such as social workers, doctors, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists, to provide comprehensive care tailored to each person's needs.

Upon entering treatment at Foundations Group Recovery Centers in Massachusetts, individuals undergo a thorough clinical assessment to determine the most suitable treatment approach. This assessment covers various aspects of the individual's history, including their substance use patterns, cultural influences related to alcohol or drug use, effects of substance abuse on their life, medical and mental health history, family dynamics, legal issues, and more.

This personalized approach to assessment ensures that treatment professionals can develop an effective treatment plan and work collaboratively with individuals to address their specific needs and challenges throughout the recovery journey.

Prolonged use of opioids may result in reduced pain-relieving effects and the development of dependence, ultimately leading to withdrawal symptoms that make it challenging to stop taking them[2].

Signing of addiction can be characterized by uncontrollable cravings and difficulty in managing opioid use despite negative effects on personal relationships or finances[2]. Treatment options for opioid addiction may include discontinuing the drug and incorporating medications such as methadone to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
